Jay Harris founded Unique Concepts in 2003. As co-owner of a previous brickpaving company established in 1996, he gained valuable experience in every aspect of the
buisness. His vision for Unique Concepts was to create a company that is truly unique within its industry, not only in the products and services provided, but
also in the manner they are provided. Unique Concepts has experienced 4 steady years of increased volume and sales despite our challenging economy.
The Unique Concepts team possesses a wide range of talent, education, and working experience within this and other fields. This enables Unique Concepts to employ
engineering, mathematics, quality control, computer programming, artistic design, sculpture, graphics, photography, architecture, drafting, horticulture and
internal training in a manner rarely found in this industry.

Unique Concepts not only designs and installs its own projects, we also act as a sub-contractor to install for other companies, and we offer our
design, sales and quoting process to other companies as well. All photos contained within our website are entirely Unique Concepts projects.
Our design services are well known and respected within the industry and are sought out by and provided to only the top installers in the area.
We back our designs for other companies by providing the initial 'in the field' setup and follow up with continued monitoring, reviewing and directing until the
project is completed. The exceptional quality of our installations is also well known within the industry.
It is not uncommon for Unique Concepts to design a job for another company and end up installing it as well.
Unique Concepts has also provided other services such as fencing, excavating, grading, indoor tile and wood floors, as well as greenhouse and garage construction.
We also manufacture a line of pre-made brickpaver steps that we sell to retail and wholesale customers.

About The Owner

Unique Concepts owner and founder Jay Harris holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Biology from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
He also studied art and music each for 2 years, and had numerous courses in computer programming and engineering. He continued his studies and earned
a certificate of drafting from the Batavia school of auto body drafting.
To help fund his education, Jay worked as a guitar instructor for 10 years, giving over 10,000 individual lessons. For Unique Concepts, he uses these teaching skills
to assure that the employees performing the installations have the knowledge and experience to handle even the most complex project.
Prior to his 11 years of recent construction experience Jay spent 2 years as a Release Engineer in Auburn Hills for Chrysler Corp., 2 yrs as a Resident Engineer at
Chryslers Jefferson North Assembly Plant(JNAP) in Detroit, 4yrs as a Chrysler Engineer performing Problem Solving at the Jeep Truck Engineering(JTE) facility in Detroit,
4 yrs as a Dimensional Control Engineer supporting the Cadillac program, and 1 yr as a Technical
Illustrator supporting Buick and Chevrolet. This all gave him valuable experience in CAD design, engineering, manufacturing, processing, tooling,
quality control, computer programming/operating and graphic design. All of these disciplines contribute to what Unique Concepts has to offer.
Jay uses his creative energies to invent tools, gadgets and new processes to meet special needs whenever they arise. He has applied for patents for
a few of his products. Having applied his inventiveness to construction, Unique Concepts uses many tools and processes that are entirely unique to the industry
and aid in the construction of their designs. They increase quality, reduce construction time and give the installers a much simpler method for constructing
even the most complex projects.
Jay is a lifelong artist. He enjoys pen and pencil drawing, photography, sculpting with all different mediums and making pottery with his pottery wheel and kiln.
Jay possesses a fascination in biology where he most enjoys setting up and maintaining terrariums for small animals such as reptiles and amphibians.
He has been recreating natural environments for these animals on a smaller scale for most of his life. These skills have helped give him the "eye" that is so important
in creating the unique designs that Unique Concepts is known for. You can see some of his passion for biology and photography by reviewing the
section "Nature to enjoy at home".
This web site is an example of Jays ability to learn new trades and apply them. Having purchased website design software and reference books on HTML, and ASP
code, Jay began creating this website in March of 2007 which he continues to maintain and update with the assistance of his website provider.
